Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist – Elementary

Location: Community Schools of Frankfort

Purpose Statement
Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) provide evaluation, therapy, and specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with speech and language impairments.

Essential Functions (include but are not limited to):

  • Assesses and Evaluates students for speech and language impairments using various batteries and techniques
  • Drafts IEP goals and services related to diagnosed speech and language impairments
  • Progress monitors therapy effectiveness and overall outcomes to determine if special education services are needed and/or revised.
  • Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.
  • Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
  • Notifices Teacher of Record or supervising Speech Language Pathologist of any recommendations to therapy, practice or student goals.
  • Adapts school and classroom environment, tools and materials for the purpose of improving student functioning and facilitating student access to curricular and instructional activities.
  • Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals relative to speech and language.
  • Assists in the input of IEP goal development and progress monitoring, as it relates to speech and language.
  • Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Documents all services, including student progress towards IEP goals and/or other specialized assessments or speech/language screenings.
  • Collaborates and consults with education professionals and community service providers regarding student needs.
  • Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature apparent or as assigned.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating equipment used in occupational therapy; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

KNOWLEDGE or ABILITY in the following is required:

  • principles, practices and procedures of special education
  • school rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior
  • ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports
  • ability to effectively analyze needs and problems objectively
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration and the general public
  • perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program
  • knowledge of relevant technology including the use of technology such as iPads to individualize instruction
  • ability to meet professional educator requirements of the school district and state
  • knowledge and skills associated with working with children with speech and language impairments
  • the ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.

Working Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, operating a computer and other office equipment, reaching, lifting, moving and/or supporting weights up to 50lbs (and/or up to adult size body weight with two-to-three person lift). Positions can require physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior.

Certificates & Licenses

  • Minimum M.S. degree in teaching from an accredited institution in the appropriate special education area
  • Indiana Teaching License in the specified areas of special education

Terms:
It is understood that the employee is a certified employee who will perform his or her duties for 183 days that will be worked consistent with the school calendar of the CSF school corporation.
