Position Description
The Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences department in the College of Communication at Butler University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track assistant professor with an expected start date of August 2024. The successful candidate will be a dedicated teacher-scholar-mentor committed to the merger of theory and practice, experiential learning, and inclusive pedagogies. They will primarily teach classes in Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Hearing, Phonology, and Speech and Hearing Sciences. They will also develop and continue a research program, supervise students, and provide leadership and service to the college, university, and professional community.
Minimum Qualifications:
– A terminal degree (PhD) in speech-language pathology or related field (ABD considered) by May 2024
– Evidence of teaching excellence;
– A record or potential for peer-reviewed, published scholarship in the area of speech-language pathology
– Excellent written communication skills;
– Expressed desire to work with students, faculty, and staff from socially and culturally diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
– PhD in speech-language pathology or related field;
– Successful experience in the following:
– working collaboratively with others (e.g., committee service, being part of a production team, co-teaching);
– working independently (e.g., supervising a research study, course development);
– Current ASHA certification (CCC-SLP);
– Demonstrated successful experience teaching undergraduate speech, language, and hearing sciences courses;
– Articulated interest or experience creating projects compatible with socially and culturally diverse and inclusive lines of inquiry in teaching and/or research;
– Professional experience as a speech-language pathologist;
– Experience connecting and collaborating with speech, language, and/or hearing professionals on the local, regional, and/or national levels;
– Experience managing people on projects;
– Effective interpersonal communication skills;
– Effective classroom management skills
– Excellent oral communication skills
