Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist

Reports to: Director of Special Education

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assessment:

  • Knowledge and use of appropriate testing materials for the following areas: articulation and phonology, language-semantics, pragmatics, syntax, fluency, voice, hearing screening, phonological awareness, and dysphagia.
  • Testing to be completed in a thorough and timely manner (within 50 school days of dated referral).
  • Make referrals to other disciplines when appropriate (e.g., occupational therapy, physical therapy)
  • Conduct re-evaluations when appropriate.

Report Writing:

  • Conduct evaluation report writing for initial evaluations and re-evaluations.
  • Conduct progress report writing.

Case Management:

  • Gather all information that will assist in the case conference process.
  • Schedule therapeutic intervention.
  • Maintain student records.
  • Develop Individual Education Plans.
  • Document current levels of performance.
  • Create and implement daily lesson plans based on each individual student’s needs.
  • Arrange and conduct case conferences involving students with a communication disorder with parents and teachers.
  • Screen speech/language skills in the primary grades.

Collaboration:

  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences.
  • Be available to staff and parents in a resource or consultative mode.
  • Involved in the Response to Intervention (RtI) and creation of the 504 plan, as needed.
  • Inform teachers of adaptations and/or modifications (e.g., state-wide testing, preferential seating) for individual students.
  • Familiarity with Indiana Academic Standards for all grade levels in order to collaborate with classroom instruction.
  • Work as a member of a professional team.

Hearing Screening:

  • Arrange and conduct state mandated hearing screenings.
  • Follow-up for individuals who fail the test with a re-screen and refer for further evaluation, if necessary.

Additional Duties:

  • Serve on Response to Intervention (RtI) Team, Assistive Technology Team, Autism Resource Team and other school committees.
  • Perform additional school duties (e.g., bus duty, hallway duty) if assigned by building principal.
  • Accept responsibility for own professional growth and development, and obtain knowledge of current practices in the field.
  • Maintain knowledge of pertinent laws (state and federal), policies, best practices and ethical standards.

  • Address concerns and offer suggestions in an appropriate and confidential manner
