Congratulations to Kathleen Heiny,
our May Member of the Month!
Kathleen received her Bachelor’s degree from Ball State University in 2000 and continued her Master’s of Speech-Language Pathology education there graduating in 2002. Kathleen works for Riverside Intermediate School with Hamilton Southeastern School District in Fishers. Her favorite population is 5th and 6th graders. She states: “I love being able to observe my 5th and 6th graders develop better communication/social skills and ultimately friendship skills by scaffolding listening, conversational, problem solving, and team-working skills. It is rewarding teaching such important life skills. I also love seeing students that are non-verbal communicate with their speaking devices/ipad because we all deserve a voice and deserve to be heard.” Kathleen has been a member of the Indiana Speech-Language Hearing Association since 2002.
Kathleen’s favorite benefit of being an ISHLA member: “I love that ISHA provides updated information regarding our profession, current legislative information, and allows us to grow in current, hot topics in our profession by attending the annual Conventions.” She encourages others to join ISHLA because “There is power in numbers. The more members [we have], the better we can advocate for our profession at the state level and for the people who benefit from our services.”
Thank you Kathleen for being an ISHLA Member!
