EHDI Legislation Introduced: Contact Your Members of Congress Today to Co-sponsor This Important Legislation
Forwarded on behalf of ASHA Advocacy:
On March 15, 2017 legislation (S. 652/H.R. 1539) was introduced in both the Senate and House to reauthorize the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act (EHDI) for the next five (5) years.
Sponsors of the bill are Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Tim Kaine (D-VA), and Representatives Brett Guthrie (R-KY) and Doris Matsui (D-CA). In 2010, Congress passed the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act of 2010, which authorized these programs through 2015. In September 2015, legislation was introduced and passed in the House, however it was unable to come up for a vote in the Senate. It is imperative that reauthorization occurs as soon as possible to ensure this successful program continues.
