Spring 2013 Indiana Voice and Dysphagia Network Symposium

03/04/2013 3:55 PM | Anonymous

Wednesday, April 3rd, 11:00am – 4:30 pm (EST)

Course Description

This will be a networking opportunity and discussion session regarding critical issues concerning DYSPHAGIA management in our state.  During the current legislative session, there have been numerous hearings and testimony provided regarding scope of practice and who is best qualified to treat the citizens of Indiana with dysphagia.  Occupational Therapists are seeking to specify that the evaluation and treatment of dysphagia, including instrumental assessments, is within their scope of practice. They also propose that their current level of training is equivalent to SLPs. SLPs are working to show that their level of training is more advanced and that they should be the preferred provider of services in this area.   The stakes are high and the discussion is important. While this impacts all of us who serve individuals with dysphagia, the potential impact to those providing services in SNFs and First Steps is worrisome. Come and find out the latest and learn how you can become involved.

In addition, hot topics in the field will be discussed along with new products (with samples) in Dysphagia management.   As a bonus, Barbara Solomon will update us on new trends in voice therapy including recommended apps!
