    Dear Indiana School-Based SLP,

We are contacting you to ask for your participation in an ISHA sponsored survey to address school-based issues in our state. Caseload complexity and size vary greatly throughout Indiana. SLP workload/caseload issues play a critical role in the delivery of services to school aged children in Indiana. ISHA seeks to better understand how district administrations across the state support school-based SLP services. ISHA has formed an ad hoc committee to gather additional information from SLPs throughout the state to inform recommendations moving forward. ISHA and ASHA support a workload approach to school-based service management. ISHA acknowledges barriers to implementation of a workload approach in many districts. ISHA seeks your help to identify and work toward resolving these barriers. Additional information from all Indiana school-based SLPs, particularly those with large and/or complex caseloads, is needed. ASHA definitions of Caseload and Workload were used when creating this survey. Full definitions of these terms and additional resources can be found on ASHA.org.

The following survey is intended to gather information to clarify the workload and administrative support of SLPs in Indiana. The survey will take 10-15 minutes to complete and provide much needed information to identify barriers to the implementation of a workload approach. The end of the survey contains an additional opportunity for you to add your voice to the discussion.  It is important for ISHA to be aware of which SLPs/areas of Indiana are experiencing difficulties with high workload/caseload in order to best address the problem.  The survey results will be confidential; however, your response will not be anonymous so we can work with you and your school administration to address your high workload/caseload.

The survey will remain open until June 15, 2020. The ad hoc committee and ISHA leadership will follow up with respondents as requested. Results and data will be shared at an ISHA school-based issues discussion in the fall. All school-based SLPs in Indiana are welcome to complete this survey, please feel free to share with any colleagues who might not be ISHA members. A robust response will help to clarify the needs of SLPs throughout the state. If you have any questions regarding the survey, please contact Tara Felkey at tarafelkey@yahoo.com or Tamar Greenwell at greenwel@purdue.edu. Thank you for making the time to support ISHA’s efforts in supporting school-based SLPs in Indiana.
